Polish NT: A deeper look into our Offense and the "Polish Triangle"

-The "Polish Triangle" Lukasz Jakub and Robert -

By Krzysiek Moskal

With only a couple hours to go before kick off, Smuda and our squad are looking to play a beautiful style of football and what is that you may ask? Well, Smuda believes we can play similar to Spain - quick one touch passes with lots of pressure and a great counter attack. But, what I think Smuda has yet to realize is that we do NOT have World Class players at every position as our fellow European rivals the Spaniards. So then what do we really have?  You don't know? I can help you sit back and enjoy the read!!!!

Our offense is definitely the strongest part of our team, and I truly believe once we continue to rely and play the same players to unify our system - then we will become a very successful squad. I will start from the top and work my way down to our midfielders.

Our main poacher right now is Robert Lewandowski, the Borussia Dortmund super star sub has really become a household name in the Bundesliga. He is now know for his late sub which usually produces not only a goal but sometimes 3 points. Lewan has been playing great and in February earned himself his 10th career international goal against Norway. The second man worth noting is the incredibly talented, speedy and super skilled Kamil Grosicki. After transferring from Jagiellonia to Sivasspor in Turkey many thought that the amount of money the Turks paid was a bargain for the young talent. Guess what? They were right!! In only 7 appearances Kamil has scored 5 times and assisted twice. Finally, we have Ireneusz Jelen, the Auxuree forward who has been plagued by the injury bug finally found some form and scored twice to help him team away from relegation. I guess people spoke to soon when once again Ireneusz got injured, this time it was not his spine, nor his knee but his calf.

Moving right along, our wingers or lack of at times - should be the life of our offense but are currently not living up to their expectations. Kuba Blaszczykowski a super talented winger, amazing pace, dribbling, passing, vision and even a great finisher can be considered world class but the injury bug has also plagued his development. I hope he stays healthy as he is a vital part of this team. On the other side we have Slawomir Peszko also a very talented winger who recently transferred from Lech Poznan to Koln. Smuda has forgiven him for his drinking incidents and joins the squad. I truly believe him and Kuba will be our life on the offense with their quick pace and excellent dribbling we can create many goal scoring opportunities. But, here is where Peszko struggles he is very up and down. A relentless player that needs to continue to work hard and develop into the talent that he really is.

Finally, a quick tidbit on our midfield we know what Ludovic Obraniak is capable of and he continues to rule our midfield pressing well and working alongside Adrian Mierzejewski, another player who is well balanced and has developed well in the Ekstraklasa. The other player that has also impressed is Adam Matuszczyk, but due to injury he will not be joining us in the next two friendlies. Finally, Rafal Murawski and Dariusz Dudka are suppose to play as our defensive midfielders and I believe can make an impact as Dudka is experienced defensively and Rafal has both the midfield presence and an idea of how to play defense. What bothers me about this is that Dudka should be playing wingback, but instead Smuda is relying on Maciej Sadlok to fill that gap and once again playing him out of position.

In the end, Poland's chance rely heavily on our offensive players as they are the better half of our team, since Smuda is unable to put the best goalie in nets - and for failing the puzzle of a defense we have - we will continue to struggle with goals against...but what we can do is pressure with our offense score, and then use the counter attack. What I truly believe will spark our team is the answer from Borussia Dortmund - the "Polish Triangle."
